Cobra Group representative accompanies humanitarian trip

Cobra Group representative Paige Adgemis, who works for the Cobra Foundation, recently accompanied a humanitarian trip undertaken to Zambia, Botswana and Namibia.

Paige Adgemis went as part of a team that comprised of eight Ruyton students, two teachers and one World Challenge leader. The four-week trip began with Zambia. After arriving in Zambia, they paid a visit to the incredible Victoria Falls and then did their acclimatisation trek to Botswana. They travelled along the ‘Okavango Delta’ on handmade wooden boats similar to canoes called ‘Mokoros’. Then, travelling through the desert in Namibia they arrived at Waterberg Primary School, their final destination. This school relies on donations and volunteers to continue educating Namibian Children. Here the team had work to do. They began with making purchases. Says Paige Adgemis, “On our first day we were faced with the challenge of purchasing all the required equipment with the money fundraised throughout the year. We had to travel for over an hour to get to Otjiwarango, where we spent a tiring and stressful day finding materials and bargaining for the best prices”. They did all kinds of work- dug trenches, mixed cement, laid bricks and also did many other chores. The money that was left was spent on buying netballs, soccer balls, pencils and various other goods for the school-kids. There was also an interactive session in which the students discussed their issues with the visiting team.

The Cobra Group has always been part of such humanitarian trips, as parts of its mission to make things better for people all across the world.

Cobra Group supports couple working for the welfare of kids in the badly affected African country Sierra Leone.

People in Sierra Leone have been afflicted with all kinds of misfortunes, ranging from endemic corruption to suppression of the press and starvation, health issues etc. The country is the twelfth-lowest-ranked country on the Human Development Index and eighth-lowest on the Human Poverty Index. It’s to help underprivileged kids in Kailahun in Sierra Leone that a Lancaster based charity organisation is working. It’s as part of this organisation that Nigel Eastwood and his wife Vijaya have been working. The Cobra Group, through the Cobra Foundation, have been supporting Nigel and Vijay greatly too.

Recently Nigel and Vijaya took part, for the organisation, in a sporting event in Manchester. Their aim was to raise £3000.00 to buy a vehicle to transport the children in Kailahun. Cobra Group sponsored them at the event and thus vouched its support to the noble cause.
